On Sunday 4 July at the Glynhill Hotel, at a formal Luncheon for the officials of Rotary International and Rotary District 1230, the Rotary Club of Renfrew were awarded the coveted ‘Club of the Year’ Trophy by District Governor Andy Slater in recognition of their efforts and hectic programme of events in raising funds and awareness for a number of important charities both locally and internationally. In the last year the Club raised a record amount of over £17,000 for Poppy Scotland, over £10,000 for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal and over £7,000 for the CHAS Hospice Robin House. Sums of money were also raised for local schools, Alzheimer Scotland, Prostate Cancer, Accord Hospice, Enable Renfrew and Erskine Hospital. In addition, with assistance from Gryffe Valley Rotary Club and the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, the Club raised enough money to open a new specially adapted Garden at Capability Scotland’s Corseford School and also started a new Interact Youth Club for the pupils of Renfrew and Trinity High Schools. The new Club, with the help and co-operation of the staff of both schools has already made its mark by sending 2 Shelter Boxes to Haiti and contributing time and effort to a number of voluntary projects. |

| First Rotary ShelterBoxes arrive in Port au Prince | |||
| The Rotary Club of Renfrew, assisted by it’s associated Rotaract, Interact and Inner Wheel Clubs, has reacted quickly to the human tragedy occurring in Haiti, as a result of the recent earthquake, with most recent estimates putting the death toll at up to 200,000. The Club managed, at very short notice, to organise a bag pack at Sainsbury’s in Braehead on Sunday 17 January, at which over £1,800 was raised. A bucket collection at Braehead Shopping Mall on Saturday 23 January raised a further funds, figure to be confirmed. In addition, further donations made to our Haiti fund from, for example, the customers of club member Peter O’Keefe’s MacDonalds restaurant at Braehead. Plus a collection at Renfrew North Church added a further £800, these funds go towards purchasing Shelter Boxes to be sent to Haiti. The club will continue to try to raise further funds for this appeal in the coming weeks. Thank you to all who have helped out at the various events so far. President, Gary Louttit. go to www.shelterbox.org to donate online and get the latest updates on the charity’s response to the Haiti earthquake. |

| 24 members battled the horrendous weather conditions for the final meeting of 2009. The planned official club photograph was taken, but if you missed it, not to worry, there will be another chance on Tuesday 26 January 2010, before our Burn's Night. | |||
| November and December have been busy months for the Club. We have had some great speakers and as always the first part of November was dedicated to our collections for PoppyScotland at Ikea, Ibrox and Renfrew. We had a great evening at the curling and our annual Dinner Dance on 27 November seemed to be enjoyed by all. The period has also seen the Club induct a new member and we hope that more will follow. 2010 will see lots more to do for the Club and I am confident that our members will show their typical dedication to hard work in the new year and show our local community and beyond that for us ‘Service Above Self’ is not just a motto. I wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year! President, Gary Louttit |

With that and excellent hospitality a great day was had by all. On a positive note, thing is, we don’t have to organize it for next year just enjoy the day (That’s our excuse and we’re sticking to it). Not sure where Alex and Iain got to for the photo, next year guy’s. |
