£2,814 ‘Vital’ CHARITY SAIL for Alzheimer Scotland
Rotofest@75 The total raised will be over £2400 including match funding from Santander. The model made the distance in just over 8.25hrs. The conditions were such that the model sailed on the limit at times. Baling out was frequent due to the waves. However the wee boat ploughed on regardless. A big thanks goes to all people who sponsored the sail, Alzheimer Scotland for helping with PR and the members of the Clyde Cruising Club, Dinghy section for hosting the event and helping on the day. Also the Paisley Model Centre for collecting donations. Allan would like to thank the Rotarians who turned up to support the event on the day, and for supplying the burgers and refreshments. The day was a huge success, and all proceeds raised will go to Alzheimer Scotland.

Weekly meetings at the Glynhill Hotel, 6.00pm to 7.30pm

News: May 2010 May-Fest
May-Fest raises over £750 for local schools
On Sunday 2 May Bishopton Bowling Club rumbled under the hooves of a group of specially trained racing hippos. Our fundraiser for local primary schools, in addition to an excellent BBQ and drinks, offered the exciting spectacle of hippo racing, a sport which is sadly not generally recognised by the purists but which nonetheless offers levels of excitement not seen in other sports. Rotarian Jack Winch’s hippo fought through the heats and finally came out on top as head hippo, while President Gary showed his unmatched skills in the indoor bowling test. A great day, well marshalled by Head Hippo Trainer Jim Naismith, which, with some sponsorship, raised over £750 for our fund for local schools.

Many retailers provide exclusive offers to the webshop, such as discounts or offering free delivery to the customer, providing more reasons for supporters to buy products through the webshop. The webshop is straightforward to use and no technical knowledge is required. The webshop facility is such a simple but effective idea.

This year’s total, which involved 30 collectors, is a record, well exceeding the 2008 figure of £3205.10 and 2007’s £1,179.21. The collection was organised by Mac De Sousa from the Rotary Club, who said: “On behalf of all at the Rotary Club of Renfrew I want to thank everyone who helped, especially the 10 soldiers from 6 SCOTS. Thanks to those who donated too - I am sure all who contributed will be happy to know that they have helped us to achieve a record-breaking amount. ”Poppyscotland, the charity that runs the 2009 Appeal, has a close partnership with the Rotary Club, who, as well as organising the collection at Ibrox, carry out a poppy collection every year in Renfrew and assist with other collections across the region.
Poppyscotland uses all money raised to provide support to veterans and their families throughout Scotland, many of whom suffer from physical, psychological and financial issues as they struggle to re-adjust to civilian
life. Ian McGregor, Chief Executive of Poppyscotland, said: “I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Renfrew for their dedication and achievement. This result sends a message to veterans and their
families that the people in Scotland want to ensure that they get the help they deserve.”
