| what is rotary? | What is The Rotary Club of Renfrew? |
Local business people who get together on a weekly basis. |
|
| It is about enjoying the local community and getting more out of the area for you and your family. | |
| What do we do? | There are 4 main functions; |
1. Friendship and Fun |
|
| 2. Help in the local community We have projects throughout the year that help local charities, this might involve local fete’s, bag pack fund-raisers, visiting local hospitals and generally helping in the community. Charities over the years have included: Enable Scotland, Capability Scotland, CHAS, Yorkhill Sick Children’s Hospital, Accord Hospice, PoppyScotland etc. |
|
| 3. National and International causes We are part of a larger organisation RIBI and Rotary International this enables us to get involved in major international projects like PolioPlus and Mercy Ships, all helping around the world. You will also meet and make friends across Britain and the world, from all walks of life. |
|
| 4. Weekly meetings We meet every Tuesday at the Glynhill Hotel, 5.30 for 6.00pm. After an evening meal the President runs through current activities and the relevant committee chairmen give brief reports. A speaker is often invited to give a 15 minute presentation on his or her chosen topic and thereafter a quick questions and answer session. The subjects are as diverse as local planning issues to PoppyScotland. Proceedings are usually brought to a close at 7.45pm. |

| What is Rotary? | The world’s first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on 23 February 1905 by Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth. The name “Rotary” derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members’ offices. |
| Joining Rotary | Rotarians are members of Rotary clubs. Rotary clubs belong to Rotary International. To become a Rotarian, you must be invited to join a Rotary club by a member of that club. A qualified candidate for Rotary club membership is an adult of good character and good business, professional, or community reputation. You can be involved as much or as little as you want, the only stipulation is that you must attend over 60% over the year, if you travel you can visit other clubs throughout the country and the world! The more you put into it the more you will get out of it. Expand your horizons and become a Rotarian, you’ll never look back and you’ll make friends for life! Friendship, fun and excitement – it’s fantastic! |
